You are collected from the Airport and taken to your first nights’ accommodation or we meet at your first nights’ accommodation where you will park your cars for the duration of the trails. (dinner, bed and breakfast),

Ataimuri to Whakamaru  – 23km, 3hrs, Intermediate, Grade 3

Whakamaru to Mangakino  – 12.5km, 1.5hrs, Intermediate, Grade 3

This section is very picturesque,  being so close to the lake edge you are rewarded with birdsong and the sound of lapping water to keep you company on your ride.  The village of Whakamaru is a slight detour off the trail at 23kms for your first break then you retrace your steps a little and re-join the trail heading towards Mangakino and your accommodation for the night.  There is a café in town for your evening meal and breakfast, or there are a few takeaway options.  (self-cater)

Day Two

Mangakino to Waipapa– 19km, 2.5-3hrs, Advanced, Grade 4

Waipapa to Waotu to 16km, 2 – 2.5 hrs, Advanced, Grade 4

This is the toughest and more remote day of the tour. After breakfast you are on the road for 3kms before rejoining the trail heading towards Waipapa Dam. At the dam Blue Tui will be waiting with a picnic lunch to fortify you before you carry on the final 16kms to Waotu, the highest point on the trail.  There is a series of switchbacks you will need to negotiate from the river to the road above where Blue Tui will be waiting.  Then it’s off to your accommodation for the night, a well-earned meal and a soft bed.  (dinner, bed and breakfast)

Day Three

Waotu to Pokaiwhenua – 31.5km, 3-4hrs, Grade 2 & 4,Intermediate and Advanced

After a lovely home cooked breakfast you are collected and  taken to Waotu.  Then  it’s an easy 20kms mostly downhill on back country roads (hi-vision wear is advisable) to Jones Landing.  From here it is a short 2.5km to the Arapuni Dam, this part of the trail is graded Advanced as there are some short sharp climbs and barricaded bluffs,  it is advised that you walk some of this section.  Alternatively you can remain on the road and wind your way to the Dam and then head for the local café for a break.  From  Arapuni Village its and easy 11.5kms to Pokaiwhenua.  Blue Tui will be waiting to take you to your accommodation. There is a variety of fine cafes and eateries in Cambridge for your evening meal and breakfast.(self-cater)

Day Four  - TE AWA RIVER RIDE

Cambridge to Hamilton City,  26kms, 2.5 hrs, Grade 1, Easy or

Karapiro to Hamilton City, 38kms, 4hrs, Grade 1, Easy

On this day you have the option for the longer or shorter route to Hamilton city.  You can either be taken out to Lake Karapiro and ride back to Cambridge, this is a lovely section of the trail and well worth doing, heading back into town for a coffee break at the world famous velodrome, the Avantidrome.

Alternatively you can forgo the 18.4 kms from Karapiro to the Avantidrome and instead after leaving your accommodation you head towards the Avantidrome on the edge of town which is well worth a visit, not only for its café but there could possibly be the chance to view some action on the 250m cycling track.  After this you are on quiet country roads for approx. 14kms between Cambridge and Hamilton.  Punnet café is another lovely place to stop and refuel before carrying on to the Hamilton Gardens and beyond is your destination, your nights accommodation in the city.  There are a number of tempting eateries for your evening meal and breakfast the following morning (self-cater)
