Cambridge to Lake Karapiro - 18.4kms - Easy


The Te Awa River Ride is a relatively easy trail and can be cycled in either direction, south to north following the flow of the Waikato River or north/south.   The two complete sections are Ngaruawahia to Hamilton Gardens at 29kms and Cambridge to Lake Karapiro at 18.4kms. 

The  section from Hamilton Gardens to Cambridge at 19.3kms is easy riding and once you leave Hamilton city you will be  following paths and country roads  (you are given a map showing which streets and roads to follow) to the outskirts of Cambridge and the world famous Avantidrome.   

From the Avantidrome you take the path for approx 3kms to the centre of Cambridge where there are a number of cafes for your enjoyment.  Then its on your bikes and out of town following the path to Karapiro and another world famous facility, Karapiro Lake home to NZ Rowing.  Not far from here and your reach the trails end where you will be collected and taken back to your vehicle. 

On this trail there are a few short uphills to negotiate but for the main part you are on flat purpose built concrete paths or sealed streets and country roads.  


There are a number of cafes for you to enjoy and the trail can be completed in either one or two days.  There are numerous fine accommodations within the city for your comfort. 



Ngaruawahia to Lake Karpario - 66.7 biking kilometers. 

Hamilton City to Lake Karapiro - 47.7 biking kilometres. 

Hamilton Gardens to Lake Karapiro - 37.7 biking kilometres.
